First, using dry hands, remove a test string from the bottle. For this tutorial, we will only be paying attention to 2 of the 5 possible readings: pH and Alkalinity. Dip the test strip into the hot tub water for at least 2 seconds. Compare the color swatches on the test strips to the color swatches on the bottle to see how your chemical levels measure. Of course, you want the colors on the test strip to match the colors within the “OK” range. If the readings are too low, add a capful of pH/Alkalinity Up to your spa. If the readings are too high, add a capful of pH/Alkalinity Down. Remember to always add chemicals to the filter compartment and never the hot tub basin directly. Run the jets for 10-15 minutes before testing the pH/Alkalinity again. Retest the water, adding more pH/Alkalinity Up or Down accordingly until the test strip reads within the “OK” range.
