The first Winter Spare the Air Alert has been put into effect for Monday, December 19th.
This alert will be in effect for 24 hours for Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Southern Sonoma and Southwestern Solano counties.
When a Winter Spare the Air Alert is in effect, it is illegal to burn wood, manufactured fire logs, pellets, or any other solid fuels in your fireplace, woodstove, or outdoor fire pit.
During the Spare the Air Winter Season, which runs Nov. 1st through Feb. 28th, if the air quality forecast is deemed to be unhealthy, a Winter Spare the Air Alert is called. This alert remains in effect for at least 24 hours.
